SUPPLEMENTARY ARTICLE: LIBERATORS IN TIMES OF REVOLUTION
To complete the information on our blog, we have attached an external source on the participation of women in the independence of Peru and Latin America. In this article we talk about the actions of women and how they were active and contributed with their intelligence, their bravery, and how they went beyond the standards of submission and those false stereotypes that prevail even today. Women such as Manuela Sáenz, María Parado Bellido, Policarpa Salavarrieta, Francisca Zubiaga, and Rosa Campusano, went beyond the role of mother and wife and fought for the liberation of nations. María Parado Bellido, for example, did not know how to read or write. She was very limited by the conditions of the time. Nevertheless, she supported the army and the independence of Peru by informing about the movements and the military power through letters that she dictated to the secretary of the Huamanga administration.
In a complex society where all political issues were dealt with by men, women stood out and actively participated, becoming today's heroines for their impetus and courage. They left behind the prejudices of men and risked their lives for independence. Although they were not recognized at the time, today, they are admired worldwide and considered examples for society.
As the article mentions, "these women who transgressed social norms imposed by the men of their time and managed to dominate the masculine space at a time when they sought to keep women in the private space”. (Moran, 2021).
